HOW DOES A CVSA WORK?
The Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA) operates on the principle that stress affects the human voice in measurable ways. During a CVSA examination, the examinee is connected to a computer via a microphone. The examiner asks a series of questions, and the CVSA software analyzes the vocal responses in real-time.
The CVSA measures variations in the voice frequency, known as micro-tremors, which occur involuntarily when a person experiences stress. These variations are caused by the tightening of vocal cords, resulting in changes in the voice patterns. Specifically, the CVSA focuses on the presence of AM (amplitude modulation) and FM (frequency modulation) frequencies in the voice.
When a person responds truthfully to a question, the vocal cords tend to remain relaxed, leading to a higher presence of FM frequencies in the voice. Conversely, when a person is stressed or deceptive, the vocal cords tighten, causing a decrease in FM frequencies and an increase in AM frequencies. The CVSA detects these changes and provides an analysis of the likelihood of deception.
Overall, the CVSA is designed to be a non-invasive and reliable tool for truth verification/lie detection, offering an alternative to traditional polygraph examinations. It provides quick and accurate results without the need for physiological measurements like heart rate or blood pressure, making it a preferred choice for many agencies and organizations.
“The Gold Standard in the truth verification industry through extensive research and development. NITV Federal Services is the manufacturer and sole source for the patented Computer Voice Stress Analyzer® III. The CVSA® III is a technological achievement in detecting deception born from a desire to achieve the most accurate results in truth verification for law enforcement, government, and the military.”
BENEFITS TO A CVSA EXAM -
BENEFITS TO A CVSA EXAM -
Why CVSA exams are considered advantageous over traditional polygraphs:
Accuracy: CVSA exams offer over 98% accuracy with no inconclusive results
Reliability: CVSA is not susceptible to manipulation or countermeasures.
Speed: CVSA exams typically provide results within a shorter timeframe, often delivering exams and reports within two weeks compared to the 4-6 week turnaround time associated with polygraphs.
Cost-effectiveness: CVSA exams tend to be less expensive overall and will never require a re-exam.
Low-stress: CVSA examinations are conducted in a low-stress environment, with the process involving simple microphone attachment and no need for invasive physiological measurements like those required for polygraph tests. We ensure that any stress detected is a result of the questions and not the environment.
Non-invasive: CVSA exams do not require the use of sensors or electrodes attached to the body, making them more comfortable and less intrusive for candidates.
Thoroughness: CVSA exams are comprehensive, utilizing advanced voice analysis technology to detect subtle vocal cues indicative of stress or deception. Thorough PHS and CVSA questionnaire review.
Transparency: CVSA examiners work closely with candidates to ensure transparency throughout the process, reviewing questionnaires and application files before conducting the exam, fostering trust and cooperation. We also provide consistent communication with the agency & candidates.
Prompt reporting: CVSA exams generate detailed reports quickly, typically within hours of completion, enabling agencies to make timely and informed decisions regarding candidate suitability.
Accessibility: CVSA services can be easily arranged, including mobile options.
Industry Standard: NITV CVSA exams are used by more than 3000 law enforcement agencies and is the only lie detection technology accepted by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
